village.... 1 in 100 Americans is behind bars. The U.S. Incarcerates more of its citizens than any other nation on the plant. According to a 2009 Department of Labor study, returning citizens with mentors are 60% less likely to re-offend, and 70% more likely to get a job if they had a mentor in the preceding month. 1 in 9 African-American men ages 20-34 is behind bars. 1 in every 100 black women in their thirties is behind bars. 68% of new prison residents are behind bars due to minor violations of probation or parole, not new offenses.
